Young shepherd and his sheep, oil on canvas by Claudius Seignol (1858-1926), painter from the Lyon School.
Signed and dated 1886 lower right.
Restoration to be planned, the paint peeling off at the bottom left and top left edges.
Recent frame in stained and gilded wood.
Dimensions without frame: 73 X 49 cm.
Dimensions with frame: 81.5 X 57 cm.
Claudius was born in 1858 in Roanne (Loire) and died in 1926 in Lyon. Trained as a chemist, he was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Louis Guy (1824-1988) known for his paintings of animals, genre scenes and landscapes. He exhibited in Lyon from 1885.
