Jupiter And Hebe, Oil On Canvas, Charles Le Carpentier, 1773 flag

Object description :

"Jupiter And Hebe, Oil On Canvas, Charles Le Carpentier, 1773"
Oil on canvas depicting an orgiastic scene between a mature man and a very naked young girl, a jewelry box and roses at her feet. One thinks of one of the many conquests of Zeus, this one being served wine directly pressed from the bunch by Cupid (but he is the son of Aphrodite), and he wears a crown of flowers which does not particularly suit him. The painting is titled "Jupiter and Hebe". Hebe is daughter of Zeus and Hera, goddess personifying youth, vitality and vigor, but she is more often represented alone with the eagle symbol of the king of the gods. For the moment the scene remains to be defined. The cleaning revealed the signature "Le Carpentier", and a date 1773. Charles Louis François Le Carpentier was born in 1744 in Pont-Audemer, and died in Rouen in 1822. He was an art writer, painter of history, of genre and landscapes. Student of Dean of Fine Arts in Paris, he returned to Rouen in 1777 where he participated in the creation of the Museum of Fine Arts. He exhibited at the Salons of 1801, 1802 and 1805. Some restorations in the background, and in the blue fabric covering the male figure. Very shimmering colors typical of the Louis XVI period. Stylish frame.
