Object description :

"Giuseppe Zais (1709-1784) - Knights And Landscape"
Giuseppe Zais (1709-1784) - Pair of paintings Giuseppe Zais (Forno di Canale d'Agordo 1709-Treviso 1784) Pair of oval paintings, oil on canvas representing: Knights and Landscape Written expertise Prof. E. Martini Dimensions of the canvas: 37x27cm Size of the frame: 45x35cm He begins in the circle of Marco Ricci where he learns the vigorous contrasts of chiaroscuro which characterize his first works. For landscapes of ruins, he then substituted landscapes with an idyllic and pastoral tone, with manners close to Francesco Zuccarelli, his master in Venice. Compared to Zuccarelli, however, he is more rustic and authentic, without any trace of affectation; the nature he depicts is always Arcadian. The landscape is in fact the genre in which he best expresses his pictorial and coloristic skills, showing great skill in landscapes ranging from a very light and delicate chromatic range to a more consistent and robust range. He was also a skilled "fighter". Several of his works are kept in the Correr Museum in Venice.
