Louis XVI Scriban Commode In Mahogany And Precious Wood - Eighteenth

Superb Commode Scriban from Nantes, made according to the rules of the art in the 18th century during the reign of Louis XVI. This high-quality furniture is made of mahogany, amaranth, lemon tree and boxwood veneer. In the lower part we observe two large identical drawers over the entire length, overhung by two smaller drawers. Their facades feature a magnificent and rare moiré mahogany, surrounded by a lemon net framed by a band of mitred amaranth in the corners. In the center of each drawer, we find a finely carved bronze entrance representing animals, arabesques and a beaded garland. The original locks in working order are accompanied by their engraved key. Louis XVI brass pull handles finish adorning these drawers. On each side of this prestigious piece of furniture we discover uprights with a square base comprising 3 stopped grooves and underlined by a fine molding. The set rests on 4 sleek turned legs. This Scriban chest of drawers has a beautiful flap in the upper part, the center of which in watered mahogany is shaped like a butterfly wing. Around, a net of boxwood then a strip of amaranth have a mahogany entourage of wire with miter cut. The top is made of an identical veneer, as well as the sides equipped with two panels. The original flap lock is in working order. The entrance also dates from the design of the cabinet. The opening of the flap is done on important brass hinges. This is held in its horizontal position by two original iron compasses called kneeling. The inner part is covered with a wine-colored sheepskin leather with cold stamp, golden stamp and central pattern. This leather is new. The interior part is in solid mahogany with a slide in the center accessing a secret cache. The bottom part is on an oak frame. In the center two niches are surrounded on each side by 3 drawers of the same dimensions whose facades are in solid mahogany and the lens buttons are in original brass. The sides and bottoms of the drawers, assembled with dovetails, are in oak. Note that the dust covers between the drawers are over the entire depth of the cabinet. True testimony to the know-how of 18th century cabinetmakers, this 250-year-old scriban chest of drawers will charm you with its marquetry and the warm colors of the mahogany species, which will fit perfectly into a contemporary decoration.
