Circular box in Martin varnish decorated with a miniature depicting the portrait of a young woman, executed by François Dumont 1751 - 1831. In 1784 he went to Rome and perfected his art to the point of becoming the official miniaturist of the Court and the most famous artist in "the small genre of portrait-mignard". Dumont's works have a most modern freedom and daring; he proceeded with broad strokes, but he has been reproached for certain cumbersomeness.
