"My signature", by Mario Tozzi, oil on canvas, Size: framed H 59 x W 51 x D 6.5 / H 34 x W 26 cm Painting by Mario Tozzi, one of the greatest exponents of modern art Italian and international. In excellent condition Short biography 1913 He enters the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. He left two years later, receiving the grand prize from the Ministry of Public Education. He made friends with Morandi, Licini, Sepo, his classmates. 1919 In September, he marries a young French university student, Marie-Thérèse, whom he had met as a child when she was vacationing on Lake Maggiore. They settled in Paris, Place St-Germain-des-Prés, just opposite the church. Shy, he lives isolated from artistic circles, which scares him a little and decides him to make this long journey. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants, the Salon D'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries. He frequents the Caffè del Duomo in Montparnasse from time to time and befriends Zadkine, Giacometti, Gonzales, Fini and Magnelli. He met Ozenfant, Lurcat and Max Jacob. 1935 Tozzi continues his intense artistic activity; his works are bought by museums: Grenoble - Paris - Rome - Athens - Berlin - Bern - Budapest - Geneva - Lyon - Mannheim - Moscow - Sao Paulo. He was decorated with the Legion of Honor by the French government. 1958 Exhibition at the Galleria Annunciata in Milan. The exhibition is decisive because it indicates the moment when the artist reappears in the international limelight after the long period of reflection and study that marked the 1940s and 1950s. 1960 He settles in the house of his father in Suna, where he worked actively with exhibitions and intense production of female busts and faces on white backgrounds. 1971 He returns to Paris, both because he is bothered by strangers and to be near his daughter and grandchildren. 1979 On September 8, he died at his home in St Jean du Gard, France. 1992 The "Studio Tozzi" is transformed into the "Archivio Tozzi", which lists more than 3,000 paintings and 1,000 works on paper, as well as books, monographs, documents, letters, minor works and photographs. 2021 The Ministry of Culture declares the Archives of Maestro Mario Tozzi of particularly important historical interest, protecting them as cultural heritage.
