"Gold And Coral Earrings, Provence 19th Century."
These earrings are made up of two elements, the first attaches to the ear using a swan's neck, it is a coral bead mounted on a small gold support, the second has the shape of a long drop of coral which is suspended from the first by a kind of small engraved gold sleeve. The control hallmark is an eagle's head, hallmark in force for gold since 1838. I particularly appreciate these pendant earrings which gracefully accompany the movements of the head. These earrings are of Provençal origin, coral was particularly appreciated in this region of southern France, an identical pair is reproduced in the book "Les bijoux des Français" by Michael CW Fieggen. Mid 19th century. height 5 cm, gross weight 6 grams
