"Bronze By Prosper Lecourtier (1851-1924)."
The deer rests only lying down, its legs folded under its body. In this position, he retains his elegance and his bearing of the head remains majestic. Prosper Lecourtier, animal sculptor, pupil of Fremiet, excels in the study of animals, his production in the naturalist style has nothing to envy to that of the one who was his Master. Prosper Lecourtier was born on July 12, 1851 in Gremilly, he died in Paris in 1924. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris from 1875 and regularly until his death, he obtained a second class medal in 1879, a third class in 1880, a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 and finally a first class in 1902. His works appear in the Museums of Provins and Tourcoing and there are some monumental sculptures outdoors, a deer in the park of Wassy (Haute-Marne), a lion in Brazil, a deer in Buenos Aires, and the statue of Jean Baptiste Pezon riding a lion in the cemetery of Père-Lachaize. Bronze with Brown patina signed on the embankment. It rests on a black marble base. Dimensions: height 28 cm, terrace 23 cm x 13 cm.
