Etching and aquatint, signed and numbered from a small edition of 10 proofs and bearing the artist's red stamp.

Marie Gautier, daughter of the painter Amand Gautier, follows the painting classes open to women led by Alfred Stevens. Admitted to the Beaux-arts de Paris, she attended the class of Puvis de Chavannes. Towards the end of the 1880s, she was a devotee of Japanese Art, the shop of merchant Siegfried Bing. His interest in Japonism becomes manifest through the production of drawings and color etchings.
