Old Kirsehir Prayer Rug, Anatolia, Turkey, 88 Cm X 126 Cm, Wool / Wool, 19th Century

Old Kirsehir or Kir-chehir rug, originating from Anatolia in Turkey from the first part of the 19th century, in wool on wool, with a double Mihrab.
The first in cherry red color is placed on a pearl gray background in another niche.
The two triangular tops are cut in steps, and taken up in the three basic colors to give a perspective effect.
The interior of the niches is sober, without ornamentation, except for the sowing of flowers which frames them as well as the lantern suspended in the center.
At the foot as well as above the niche, there are boards decorated with large stylized yellow and red flowers which seem to be apple blossoms.
The main border is rich with a very elaborate decoration of flowers, cherry red, yellow, and pearl gray, of a very great harmony.
The stripes along the border take up the pattern of the zigzag line, symbol of water and eternity found on Anatolian and Caucasian rugs.
The Kirsehir are part of a less known group, but with particularly original designs that Eastern Turkey produced.
The Kirsehirs and their neighbors, the Moudjour rugs, have a geometric decoration that can be explained by the mountainous location of these two villages in southeastern Turkey.
The floral element on the Kirsehir is always very stylized and it is sometimes difficult to discern them.
The base colors are most often cherry red and pastel green. There are similarities with the Moudjour, but the shades are much darker and the stepped niches are of a single shade, which leads to confusion between these two styles of carpet in certain denominations and presentations.
Our model is a fine example of this band and wonderful knotting work, in very good condition, considering its age, it is a beautiful collector's rug.
Old restorations are visible but do not spoil the beauty of this very rare bright room.
The photo of the back shows us two reinforcements of strips applied at the top and bottom of the mat.
