Provenance Château Wannegem-Lede
The Château often called "Le Château des Châteaux" or "Le petit Trianon des Flandres", is located between Ghent and Oudenaerde. It is a typical example of a "Maison de Plaisance" from the late 18th century, in a Louis XVI style.
The building (1785-86) was designed by Barnabé Guimard, pupil of Jacques IV Angel Gabriel, rebuilder of Versailles, and architect of Place Royale and Place Warande in Brussels, by order of Charles de Lorraine.
The principal was Alphonse Pierre Antoine Baut de Rasmon, His father had bought the Lordship of Wannegem-Lede in 1765 from the Montmorency family.
The park had been designed according to the ideas of the German gardener Hirschfeld.
This domain is an exceptional qualitative example of the culture of the late 18th century.
