"Large Pair Of Angels Flare Holders In Golden Wood, Eighteenth"
Pair of torchiere angels in gilded and polychromed wood. From the Italian school, these two curly-haired seraphim rest on plinths richly sculpted with clouds, windings and the faces of cherubs. Sculpted in the tradition of the Italian Renaissance of the contrapposto, the attitude of the angels is dynamic and alive, they seem to advance towards us. Abundantly gilded, tunics with sculpted pleats are extended by turbulent capes reminiscent of flames. These capes are a counterpart to the large outstretched wings. Italian work of large dimensions, 18th century period.
