"Sculpture Entitled "
A sculpture titled "Secours" or Rescue, depicts a sailor standing on the prow of a ship and casting a line with the anchor, signed "Waagen Scpt" (sculpted by Waagen), this late 19th century sculpture is cast in spelter/regule, a white metal alloy. In good general condition, with small alteration to the patina. Height 75 cm, weight 9.8 kg. Local pick-up recommended. - The famous sculptor Arthur Waagen (1833-1898) was born in Lithuania (East Prussia). He lived and worked mainly in Paris, where he won numerous awards and was widely exhibited. He set up a workshop along the Parisian street of Cours-de-Vincennes. Waagen exhibited regularly at the Paris Salons from 1869 to 1887 and died in 1898.
