"4 Large Panels Wallpaper XIX Manufacture Zuber Expo Paris 1867 D After Les Gobelins"
After Pierre Adrien CHABAL DUSSURGEY Suite of four panels from the "Decor Decoration with Gobelins Tapestry Panels", presented at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867, Zuber factory in Rixheim, second half of the 19th century, block printing in a vivid polychromy, Chabal Dussurgey's drawing is inspired by the decor of Boucher's "Tenture des Dieux" woven at the Manufacture royale des Gobelins in 1762, which was very successful and was woven again until 1806. Panels with identical decorations of an antique medallion depicting Cupid and Psyche held in place by a ribbon bow and surrounded by a garland of peonies and morning glory on a blue background with scales and clover patterns; note the subtle treatment of the shadows cast. Strips fixed to wooden panels (two panels cut off from their lower edge, a few small accidents), 235 x 104 cm and 250 x 103 cm.
