"After Etienne Maurice Falconet (1716-1791) - Bronze "
Bronze with brown patina resting on a marble base. Signed "EM Falconet" and "MODÈLE BRONZE" From the marble made by Etienne Maurice Falconet in 1757 for Madame de Pompadour "Menacing Love". Original in marble commissioned by Madame de Pompadour in 1757 for the gardens of the Hôtel d'Evreux, now the Elysée Palace and now kept in the Louvre Museum. A winged angel represents Cupid, god of love, seated on a mound and looking mischievous. His right index finger brought to his mouth, calls for silence while he extracts an arrow from his quiver with his other hand to make the person it is going to fall in love.
