"Baptismal Font, Basin, Stoup, 18th Century, Red Rance Marble"
Sumptuous baptismal font or stoup in sculpted marble from the eighteenth century. It is a red marble from Rance in Hainaut.This quarry, now closed, was for centuries the supplier of slabs, columns, fireplaces, monuments, etc.
The quarry's biggest client was undoubtedly Louis XIV, who ordered so much marble that a new quarry was started to satisfy the royal demand, baptized "the hole of Versailles".
This magnificent basin is 97 cm high.
