"Great Hst "
Rare representation of the "Malade Imaginaire" made at the time of the Regency. As in the theatre, the characters return to the garden side, here the happy and positive apothequaries. On the court side the characters are static, it's the side of betrayal and low masses, the negative side. The large stage curtain on the right confirms that we are indeed in the theater facing Molière's last work. This large oil on canvas, originally probably taken from the woodwork, was re-lined and framed in a gilded wooden frame at the beginning of the 19th century. Languedoc, circa 1720 -1730.
