Mustard Pot, Paris 1770-71, Theodore Vancauwenbergh Dit “vancombert”, Sterling Silver

Cute mustard pot from the Louis XV period in sterling silver and cut Crystal  with the hallmarks of the city of Paris for the year 1770 -1771 and of the master goldsmith Théodore Joseph Van Cauwenberghe known' as "Vancombert". This goldsmith of Flemish origin remained a journeyman until the age of forty-seven, before obtaining the master's degree which he obtained in 1770. Our mustard pot  therefore belongs to the first production of this goldsmith. He will end up having such a large production that in 1786, a considerable theft worth more than 100,000 pounds can take place in his shop. This setback had a negative influence on the business of our goldsmith, because very few pieces are known by his hand which date from after 1786. The mount is in perfect condition and contains a container and its lid in cut crystal which is the exact but later replica  bof the  period container that has disappeared. It weighs 255 grams.
