17th Century Painting Of Saint John The Baptist At La Fontaine

Oil painting from the end of the 17th century representing Saint John the Baptist in full length, seen in right profile, he is seated on a rock, half-naked, barefoot, covered with a red drapery, one of which is folded over the left shoulder and in a red draped coat, her hair is mid-length wavy. The scene takes place outdoors with rocks and rocks in the background. His left hand holds a shell that collects water from the spring to drink. On the ground a cross with a phylactery, in the foreground a standing lamb, symbol of the coming sacrifice of Christ. Being associated with the Lamb, John the Baptist, who will baptize Jesus, thus prefigures his famous words: 'Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world' (John, I, 29). Painting in good condition with old restorations, rear frame
