C. Fournier, Prayer Before An Istanbul Mosque, 1910 flag

Object description :

"C. Fournier, Prayer Before An Istanbul Mosque, 1910"
C. Fournier, Mosque in Istanbul, 1910 Oil on panel, signed lower right, with an inscription on the back "1910 Istanbul, Mosque" H. 33; L. 23.5 cm, unframed "Istanbul" was the term applied at the time of Pierre Loti, the part of Constantinople for the former Byzantine city walls. There are very few mosques in Istanbul with the Iznik ceramics on the outside walls. It could be here a table made from several mosques, Rustem Pasha, near the Egyptian Bazaar, or that of Eyyup on the Golden Horn. The scene shows a character who takes off his shoes to pray outside in the other faithful company, under a colonnade portico surmounted small domes, which is characteristic of the classical Ottoman art (XVI century).
