"Hanakago Hyotan, Double-gourd Basket For Ikebana, Japan (meiji Era)"
Hanakago basket in the shape of a hyotan double gourd used as a vase holder for ikabana, the famous Japanese floral art. This hyotan hanakago is woven from smoked bamboo using an irregular, free-width braiding technique called midare-ami. The base is formed by twisting branches. Japanese work dating from the end of the Meiji era (1868 - 1912) or even the beginning of the Taisho era (1912 - 1926)
