"Important Chest Of Drawers à La Régence Beginning Louis XV. Early 18th Century, Circa 1730"
Important crossbow-shaped chest of drawers in tulipwood, kingwood and rosewood inlaid with leaves and geometrical contrasting fillets on an oak and fir frame with walnut inlays. This chest of drawers with generous dimensions is traversed by a movement as salient as it is voluble, all is curves, counter curves and unhooking handling with subtlety softness and nervousness. Its front is covered by a very pronounced crossbow movement accentuated in the middle by a concave drop in the boldest; the sides follow the movement as voluble as pronounced but it is punctuated by a slight projection that accentuates the relief with elegance. Our chest of drawers opens with five drawers on three rows, its uprights are straight, rounded punctuated by small cambered feet with shoulders.
A very beautiful ornamentation of finely chiseled bronzes, having kept their perfect gilding of time, such as entries of lock and handles of fixed drawing, bottom of lamp. All and all still from more symmetrical but where invites a slight fantasy of the contoured lines recalling the volutes of the shells with asymmetrical scrolls decorates the case and the drawers; the feet that in them are sheathed with hooves already in dominant rocaille. The set is topped by a marble leaf marrying the frame in red of Rance where runs in periphery a beak of corbin heightened by a wide throat in elegie to double evolution. The red marble of Rance or "Old Rance" is probably the most prolific marble in the decoration of the Palace of Versailles, especially for the columns of the Hall of Mirrors, in the Grand Vestibule, as well as in various salons where it is used to make columns, staircases and monumental fireplaces. We find in this elegant early commode all the beautiful classical ornaments so dear to the decorative arts of this early Enlightenment where symmetry and balance are still cardinal virtues but enhanced by this charm with the emerging asymmetry so spicy specific to the end of the Regency period and the beginnings of the reign of the young Louis XV. Balance, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this unusual chest of drawers (151cm) from the first decades of the 18th century. It is worth noting the great care taken with the linking elements of impeccable quality.
Dimensions: in marble, length 151 cm, depth 66cm and total height 91.5cm.
