Commonly classified in the vast category of Afghans or Turkmens, this very beautiful luminous carpet is a Merkan from the middle of the 19th century. In used condition, this little unknown pearl from Central Asia measures 105 cm wide by 167 cm long. These carpets, always based on deep orange-red and midnight blue, present bands of güls horizontally or obliquely.
the güls are of various shapes and the pistachio flowers are ivory. The border has a marked Persian character, approaching the Caucasus.
The wool-on-wool texture is solid, the knotting is very dense and fine.
Note the beauty and quality of each small medallion enclosing a star of the Medes, star of Solomon, surrounded by stylized rams' horns, called Kotchaks.
These rugs are always wool on wool, sometimes the decoration is very close to the Afghans using the gul pattern, but always with bright shades.
The elegance of the decoration is simple and its symmetrical organization made very pleasing to the eye thanks to shades that cohabit perfectly. These are comfortable rugs, the knotting is dense and tight, this type of rug can be used in any type of interior decoration.
