Object description :

"Bali, Indonesia - Large Wooden Temple Figure Of Dewi Sri, 19th Century."
Superb and Rare polychrome wooden temple sculpture representing Dewi Sri wife of Vishnu who is the goddess of prosperity, fertility and wealth. Balinese depictions of Dewi Sri show the goddess as young, beautiful and slender and curvaceous. She tends to wear a dance costume, an elaborate hairstyle, and facial features that represent the Balinese concept of feminine beauty. Sculptures of Dewi Sri are used in many temples dedicated to him. It is also very difficult to find real sculptures of ancient temples because the Indonesians and more particularly the Balinese have only very rarely let out of their country everything that is of a religious nature and which is very precious to them. As a result, there were during the second half of the 20th century a number of copies dedicated to the export market. This is a sculpture with a very beautiful patina and beautiful remains of blue, red and gold polychromy and with a lot of grace. It most likely dates from the 19th century or even the beginning of the 20th century. Height: 70 cm, no restoration. More photos on request.
