"Important And Sublime Copper And Brass Ewer, Uzbekistan, Central Asia, 19th Century"
Important covered ewer, with pear-shaped belly, and double juxtaposed mandorles in copper and brass engraved on all sides with subtle interlacing, originating and typical in its shape from Uzbekistan, from the 19th century.
Graceful ESSE handle in molded brass and magnificent and fine engravings on the whole of the object make it an ewer of great beauty and rare finesse.
The engraved decoration of interlacing in two mandorlas in relief placed on the belly, is found on both sides, the whole of the object is engraved with very fine interlacing, friezes.
The domed lid surmounted by a ribbed fretel, as well as the finely engraved pouring spout take up the same theme.
Crossing point of the Silk Road, for centuries, a former Soviet republic of Central Asia, this country offers treasures to those who know how to appreciate them.
The arts and letters, the clothing of the time, the carpets, the silk make this country a delight for collectors of ancient Islamic art and cities like Samarkand, Bukhara are the magic places of this mythical road of the silk.
The use of ewers was essentially intended for ablutions, washing the face and hands, during religious ceremonies.

These marvelous coppers, tinned or not, were under the Safavid or Qajar dynasties, and in the other countries around Persia, an eminent alternative to silver and they enjoyed the same status.
These objects have certainly lived as the centerpieces of Persian and Central Asian homes.
