Jean-Frédéric CANEPA (1894-1981) Painter from Marseille, was part of this friendly group of Marseille painters who met at the Bar du "Peano" and worked as colleagues. It was "the golden age of Marseille", with his colleague and friend Maurice DARD, whose studio he shared on rue Sainte, he still dominates the quai du Canal. He was a student at the School of Fine Arts in Marseille from 1908 to 1916 and was a student of A. Moutte and M. Guindon among others. In the 1930s, he decorated the Apollo in Paris, the Folies Bergères and two panels at the Palais de Justice in Marseille. In 1937, he was bought by the Cantini Museum in Marseille (Les Glaieuls) In 1938, he was appointed Professor at the Museum of Fine Arts in Marseille and he set up his studio Quai de Rive Neuve in Marseille. He is one of the great representatives of the Provençal school of the early 20th century, with a modern and already Cubist style, as here in this beautiful still life.
