"Esther Fainting, 18th Century Painting"
Oil on canvas late 17th or early 18th, Esther fainting. Esther, Queen of Persia and wife of King Assuerus, learns that the king's favourite, Aman, wants to have all the Jews in the kingdom massacred. On hearing the news, she fainted in the arms of King Ahasuerus in the presence of her father Mordecai and his servants. She then reveals to Ahasuerus her Jewish origins in order to make him change his mind and thus save the Jewish people. This work of a remarkable quality of execution, is presented on its original canvas. Some customary restorations should be noted: change of chassis, installation of tension bands... Dimensions with frame: 75x66cm.
