He exhibited for the first time in Brussels in 1875. From 1887, Maurice Hagemans became a member of the Société des Aquarellistes Belges.
He was the co-founder a year earlier of L'Art Indépendant.
Its success is growing and in 1892, King Leopold II places an order for four panels for the Chateau d'Ardenne.
