Raoul André ULMANN (1867-1841): "Rowing regatta in Paris" Oil on paper, signed lower right, Size: 12 x 13 cm Beautiful study on the motif. Raoul André Ulmann is a French painter, born in Paris on May 28, 18671 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine on June 28, 19412. A pupil of William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury, he painted Breton and Dutch seascapes and views of Paris. From 1907, he exhibited landscapes at the National Society of Fine Arts. He also exhibited with the New Society of Painters and Sculptors of Paris, chaired after 1905 by Auguste Rodin, during salons in Paris and in the United States (notably in Buffalo in November-December 1912) 3,4. During his lifetime, the French State acquired several of his works, which were notably assigned to the Luxembourg museum, the Bonnat museum in Bayonne, the Chamber of Deputies, or the Élysée palace. Tristesse sur la mer was reproduced in L'Estampe moderne in 1898. He received the Puvis de Chavannes prize in 1931. Works The Musée d'Orsay has several of his works: Grande marée à Trébeurden5; The Seine at the Trocadéro; The Bastille canal6; The meadow of Biez7. The Museum of Fine Arts in Quimper has a Breton Navy.
