BUDDHA HEADProvince of Ayutthaya, Thailand
17th - 18th century
Bronze
H. 8 ; L. 3,5cm
(old missing)
This bronze Buddha's head has a particular elegance: his closed eyelids are incised as if referring to the expression of wisdom, his lips are finely drawn, his nasal bridge extends into two eyebrow arches, his earlobe is particularly elongated. This last characteristic refers to the heavy jewelry that Prince Siddharta used to wear.
Finally, his headdress is punctuated with a succession of small beads around which Buddha's characteristic protuberance, called the "oushnisha", rises.
On a bronze base (dimensions indicated without base)
