Great names from the 18th century, including the Marquise de Pompadour, Catherine II of Russia and Marie-Thérèse of Austria, are also associated with the Dog of Bologna. The Prince Elector of Saxony Frederick Augustus II, in particular, would have been very attracted by these animals considered intelligent and full of temperament, and would have asked Kaendler to create several porcelain models.
