"Empire Period Pedestal Table In Mahogany, Beautiful Garniture Of Gilded Bronzes, To Be Compared To Marcion"
Beautiful Empire period pedestal table in mahogany, model with 3 pilaster legs adorned with a rich garniture of chiseled bronze and gilded with mercury (palmettes, rosettes) mounted on a tripod base. Parisian production from the Empire period, circa 1805-1810. It is often not easy to differentiate with precision the productions of the Empire from those dating from the beginning of the Restoration. Same cabinetmakers, very similar stylistic vocabulary, the differences are subtle on current models. There is no doubt about this pedestal table: the very straight lines directly inspired by antique furniture with a clear desire for "archaeological precision", the model is martial, almost military. It is a purely Empire piece of furniture, beautifully made. Unstamped, the perfection of the proportions, the care given to the finishes and the gilded bronzes are the hallmarks of a great Parisian cabinetmaker, who is reminiscent of the work of Marcion. We sold a year ago a dresser of a very similar spirit that seems to come from the same workshop: https://www.gslr-antiques.com/fr/boutique/meubles/commode-empire-acajou-marcion.php Pierre-Benoit Marcion (1769 - 1840), along with Jacob, was the main supplier to the Imperial Palaces and to the dignitaries of the Empire. This type of table is a great classic of Empire period decoration, intended for use as a living room or library table, a tea table or an occasional dining room table. Rare model for its quality and model. It is in perfect condition, the buffer varnish has been redone according to the rules of the art by our cabinetmaker. It is clean and shiny. No accident or missing tackle. One end of bronze palmettes missing. Height: 73cm Diameter: 82cm
