Object description :

"Old Persian Kashan Rug, 90 Cm X 163 Cm, Wool And Silk, Iran, Late 19th To Early 20th Century"
Superb Kashan carpet from the end of the 19th century or the very beginning of the 20th century, measuring 90 cm wide by 163 cm long for 600,000 knots per m2.
The central motif with two important pendants draws a large stylized flower in bloom, surrounded by other numerous flowers and interlacings covering the field.
We find this same type of flower and color in the corners of the border.
The border is composed of various patterns, and mainly cartridges.
The whole of this piece is in good condition, the velvet clean, a slight wear on the edges, which gives it a very special charm.
The general condition is very good, there is no reduction in the pile, the very fine wool and silk used are of first quality.
Its thickness is five millimeters.
The colors are fresh without loss of color and not exposed.
The very ornate field can incline us as well as the colors to see a Tabriz in this magnificent old carpet, but we are indeed in the presence of a Kashan. This marvelous hand-tied work has a number of 600,000 knots per M2.
Iranian traders give this kind of Kashan the name "Motachem" after the name of a famous weaver. Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in central Iran.
During the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of the production of rugs of legendary splendor.
Finely woven rugs, very rich in composition, were knotted by the royal factory of Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections.
The craft industry stopped in Kashan between the invasion of the Afghans (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
The relaunch of the production of rugs started with rugs which are distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance.
These copies are called Kashan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century.
The decorations are varied and offer meticulous craftsmanship: hunting scenes, figures with figures inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant setting, trees of life.
Thanks to the superior quality of wool, their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and designs, the Kashans took their place among the best Persian rugs.
This rug has been professionally cleaned and environmentally friendly.
