Raoul Van Maldère (1875-1947) Chapel In Provence flag

Object description :

"Raoul Van Maldère (1875-1947) Chapel In Provence"
Always so surprising and avant-garde for an artist from the Marseillaise Classique School, Raoul Van Maldère paints here, playing with shapes and colors, an oil on canvas of an intensity and a modernism rare in Provence for that time. The work, in perfect condition, is signed and dated 1922 lower right and represents a chapel in Provence. It is offered in a simple natural oak frame which suits it very well and which measures 60 cm by 78.5 cm, 54 cm by 72.5 cm without the frame. First self-taught then a student of Joseph Colla, he was encouraged and regularly exhibited by the Marseille gallery owner Jules Olive (1910, 1913, 1921, 1922, 1923, and 1925). In 1925, he tried his luck in Paris and made his debut at the Salon des Indépendants with "the Four" and two watercolors representing landscapes of Provence. From 1913, he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne. Finally, he attended the Salon des Artistes Français from 1924 to 1939: "Old Mas, Provence and Etang de Berre (1926), Maison en Provence and Provencal Mas (1927), Coup de mer, Provence (1936)". He is also the author of popular female portraits.
