Indonesia, Bali - Large Wooden Sculpture Around 1950-1970 flag

Object description :

"Indonesia, Bali - Large Wooden Sculpture Around 1950-1970"
Imposing sculpture representing Kumbhakarna attacked by the army of monkeys, scene from the Ramayana of Hindu mythology. Superbly sculpted from a single piece of Macassar or Coramandel ebony, it offers a very strong presence due to its size, the subject addressed as well as the quality of the decorations. It was most likely carved between the 1950s and 1970s. A part of the top of the sculpture has been glued and shows a lack of wood as well as a small part of the headdress of the monkey on the head of the deity (see Pictures ). The wood being dark it is seen very little or not at all. Height: 82 cm Weight: 22 Kg Do not hesitate to contact me for more information.
