Very Rare Khazar Saber Vth-ixth Century flag

Object description :

"Very Rare Khazar Saber Vth-ixth Century"
This is a very rare Khazar saber, collected in Crimea, during Soviet times. The blade and the guard are authentic, the hilt is obviously a quality restoration, which respects historical knowledge. The rare Khazar swords that we find offered for sale are all without hilt.
Sabers with their original hilt preserved are extremely rare, less than 10 known worldwide ...
BLADE: It is a solid steel blade, slightly curved, with a false edge about 10 cm near the tip. The deep oxidation has been professionally stabilized and the blade has been restored in some places of the cutting edge Length of the blade = 66 cm
GUARD: it is made of steel, complete with 2 quillons perpendicular to the blade, which is typical of the ealrly mounts, since later the quillons tend to curve towards the blade.
HILT: it is made of wood with a chiseled ring near the guard, and a bulb-shaped pommel, also chiseled.
This pommel seems older than the other elements of the grip (reuse of an old pommel?)
Two chiseled brass bands join the pommel to the ring near the guard
On each face of the grip, a plate of ray skin covers wood. This is in agreed with known archaeological models, and is similar to the mount that is also found on the "Charlemagne's saber"
So this is therefore a Khazar saber dating from the beginning of the Khanate era, regardind the blade and the guard (approximately 7th century) The hilt is a restoration, probably a museum work, dating from the 20th century. This saber is said to have been exhibited in a museum in Simferopol during the soviet period. (?)
There would be a lot to say about the empire of the Khazars, a meteor that illuminated the sky of this region during 3 centuries. The Khazars in 717 saved Constantinople which was besieged by the Arabs, by their attacks in Azerbaijan which blocked the reinforcements troops.
The links were close with Byzantium ... (Consult the thesis "the Byzantine presence in Crimea")
In the 8th century the Sea of Azov was called " Khazar's sea ".
Curiously, the religion of the Khazar princes was Judaism, but other religions were widely tolerated, Christianity, Islam ... And some Khazar khans were even from families converted to Islam ...
This nomadic people ruled the steppes, the Crimea , the entire North Caucasus region up to the mouth of the Volga.
This historical object is an interesting witness from the ephemeral empire of the steppes.
