The very nicely framed landscape of the late 18th / early 19th century with cows grazing by the lake and ruins in the background executed by the famous Austrian landscape and animal painter Martin von Molitor (1759 - Vienna - 1812). He studied under Johann Christian Brand. From 1784, Molitor was a member of the Academy of Vienna and worked mainly in gouache and watercolor.

The artist is listed in: Prof. H. Fuchs, Austrian Painters of the 19th Century, Vienna, 1973.
Inscription: signed with the initial M, lower left. On the reverse inscribed Martin von Molitor (1759-1812).
