Cabinet Naturaliste By Emile Gallé

The characteristics of the know-how of Emile Gallé (1846-1904) founding member of the School of Nancy, are present on this charming cabinet-showcase, combining door and drawer, tier, shelves and theater. The perfect proportions of this piece of furniture are adapted to take place in a small living room, an office, a boudoir, and present there vases, ceramic glass paste or collection of antiques. The fine structure with a slightly undulating movement, inspired by plant stems, supports a tier with an arched backsplash inlaid with flowers. On the lower level, two galleries, with openwork sides and sculpted in vegetal-style balustrades, enclose a small window with a door with a rounded top, and reminds us of the Renaissance cabinet theater, the whole resting on an alcove with a curvilinear pediment and slightly molded and a drawer also inlaid with a leafy branch. The side panels of the lower part are also inlaid with a light seedling of flowers. The door entirely inlaid with local wood, takes us for a walk, in a Mediterranean atmosphere, on the sloping paths of a garden bordered by architectures and cypresses with the sea for the horizon. The decorations designed by Gallé are incredibly realistic, a fervent follower of nature, passionate about botany, he attached himself, for his marquetry paintings and his glassware, to the most accurate representation possible of the plant world.
