From that time on, he forged significant links with the city, the same year the newspaper “Paris Soir” organized a competition with the company Air France, so to gauge itself against the others, Toffoli sent two paintings. They will be selected and exhibited in a gallery on rue Bonaparte in Paris. Sacha Guitry, enlightened art lover, notices them and he asks Toffoli to realize the decoration of one of his plays. In 1935, a competition is opened by the Ministry of Colonies on the occasion of the tercentenary of attachment of the Antilles to France. Its composition obtains the first prize. Shortly after, Luigi Toffoli received the second prize in an international competition organized by the League of Nations. He now presents himself as a painter and therefore Toffoli has a series of exhibitions in the main salons: Salon d'Automne, Salon des Indépendants, Salon des Peintres Témoins de leur Temps, Musée de la Marine. During the occupation in order to escape the compulsory labor service, in 1939 Luigi Toffoli took refuge in Touraine where he participated as a liaison officer for the Resistance. In 1947, Luigi Toffoli obtained French naturalization and became Louis Toffoli (Official Journal of the September 21). From now on, exhibitions and trips abroad will multiply. His fame as a painter is gradually becoming worldwide. Witness of his time, his pictorial expression is characterized by the observation of human gesture, picturesque scenes or landscapes marked by man. An established and recognized artist, he worked in a very personal figurative style rich in vibrant colors in which the love of man and the care taken in a meticulous analysis of form and movement shine through. For these reasons, his paintings have a significant impact on the viewer, and are highly sought after by collectors. Aubusson weaves in 1976 the first tapestries of the painter. An inveterate traveler, his work has been shown all over the world, in Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, Morocco, Israel, the USA and many other countries of which he will paint a work that is always revitalized at the heart of everyday life. . He has his own museum in Charentons le Pont, in the south of Paris.
