Object description :

"Harp Ngombi Instrument Carved With A Virgin - Gabon, Africa Circa 1945"
Interesting anthropomorphic harp, colonial work from Gabon around 1940-1950. It is sculpted with a bust of a Virgin painted white with kaolin, a face with fine and naive features enhanced with blue. The sound box is covered with leather decorated with a polychrome cross and two stars.

Materials: semi-hard wood, kaolin, pigments, leather, metal and nylon

Provenance: Private collection, collected by the owner in Gabon in the 1950s.

Height: 68 cm
Width 46 cm

Condition report: Fairly good general condition, two lack of wood on the right part of the veil of the virgin. Two leather gaps on the right side of the body. Vertical slits of natural wood wear on the sides of the body. Slots in the console and a missing key.
