DRAGON HELMET OF THE PARIS MUNICIPAL GUARD, July 1830 model, July Monarchy. Brass bomb, H about 11 cm from the bottom of the gutter, 18 cm from the bottom of the turban, shaped like a neck brace. It is bordered at the bottom of a gutter of the type which will be adopted on the helmets of 1844 with flat and protruding rods. Turban, H on the sides 7 cm, in leather covered with panther skin. Visor and neck cover edged with a brass band folded astride the outer edge. Brass plume holder, H 4.2 cm, with a square section that decreases slightly downwards. Crest, H 12 cm, composed of two fins stamped in relief with a series of nine gadroons separated by acanthus leaves and decreasing towards the back; they are fixed to the bomb by means of two brass screws. Mask, width at its center 5.4 cm, max. in the lower part 8.1 cm, stamped with a globe embossed with the inscription "July 29, 1830" and surmounted by the Gallic rooster holding in its talons the sparkling spindle of Jupiter; it is fixed to the bomb by means of a brass screw. The top of the crest is embossed with a wreath of oak and laurel branches; the lower part widens out, it is embossed with an oak branch and a laurel branch and the inscription "GARDE MUNICIPALE DE PARIS". The top of the crest is furnished with a cover plate without decoration or engraving. Brass egret holder (commonly called a marmoset by collectors) composed of a socket and a lens, both embossed with corollas of foliage and flowers. Red horsehair egret. Black horsehair mane about 62 cm long. Chinstrap each composed of a black leather chin strap covered with a stamped brass plate in the shape of a decreasing series of scalloped scales. Round brass rosettes stamped in relief with a five-pointed star bordered by a projecting double molding, diameter 6 cm. Total helmet height 38 cm. Missing inner cap. France. July Monarchy. Good condition, some small wear on the crest. NOTE: The hair of the egret holder is scarlet for a trumpet helmet, the mane is black, of the troop model.
