Object description :

"A Empire Ormolu Clock Signed Noséda In Marseille."
Pyramid shaped skeleton clock signed by Noséda in Marseille representing an allegory to fortune. Pyramid-shaped in chiseled bronze, gilded with mercury treated in burnished and amati, provided with a blue enamel dial with a skeleton called “skeleton” revealing the mechanism. The group is made up of two distinct parts. The upper part is composed around the cylinder of the dial; it is crowned with an eagle with outstretched wings perched on clouds, on either side of which clouds also emerge. The set rests on a base decorated with a mythological scene of allegory to fortune. The scene presents Fortune, all-powerful goddess, daughter of Jupiter, dispenser of good and evil, of pleasures and pains, of wealth and of poverty. This one is represented winged, half-naked, her cornucopia in her hand. One of his feet stays in the air, while the other leans on a rapidly spinning wheel. The goddess making her oracles responding to the requests of the supplicants, this one is represented on both sides of fortune, one knee on the ground, hands extended towards Mount Olympus and dozing receiving wealth, prosperity and fertility. The whole rests on four spherical guilloche feet. The blue enamel dial highlighted on the periphery with a pearl stripe and a hatched border with openwork revealing the mechanism. The hours are spun in black Roman numerals with decimal division, the minutes are represented by bars on the enamel. Noséda master watchmaker in Marseille under the empire is referenced in the Tardy, dictionary of French watchmakers on page 490. This clock has a very beautiful mercury gilding with a shiny part on the smooth surfaces and matt for the chiseled parts. Its blue enamelled dial bears the signature NOSEDA A MARSEILLE on its base. The clock rests on a multi-lobed plinth in gilded wood with burnished and amati leaf with hatched and guilloche reparure. Wire suspension mechanism, hour and half hour strike. Balance, bell and keys are present. Revised by the watchmaker of its former owner. Dimensions: Pendulum Height 34cm - Width 31.5cm - Depth 14cm. Base Height 5.7cm - Width 36cm - Depth 17.5cm.
