Object description :

"Consulate Mahogany Writing Desk And Commode, Early 19th Century Circa 1800"
Empire mahogany writing desk and commode, consistent set of two pieces of furniture.

Beautiful plum pudding mahogany veneer, finely chiseled ormolu decoration - mercury gilt bronze with a matt and shiny finish ; the two pieces rest on two lion claw-shaped feet. The lion claws are blackened to simulate patinated bronze.

Beautiful Parisian production in the taste of Molitor or Jacob Frères. As there is no stamp, it is difficult to make a 100% bet on one of the two.

The lion head shaped handles are probably the work of Claude Galle - we find the same profile on the mantel bar by Claude Galle that we sold before.

In very good condition.

The whole set of an Empire bedroom is presented in this video. The pieces haven't been pulled apart for 200 years.
