"Portrait Of Russian Princess Catherine Bagration, Attributed To Jb Isabey"
From an auction on the other side of the Rhine, this pretty portrait, miniature on ivory of one of JB Isabey's most charming female models, one of the prettiest and scandalous women of the early 19th century, Princess Ekaterina Pavlovna Bagration (born Skavronskaya, December 7 1783, June 11, 1857 in Venice). You will find on the last 2 photos two other portraits, listed painted by Isabey or signed, of this pretty person. Our miniature does not bear any signature for a very simple reason: it is the center of a work that has unfortunately been cut, as can be seen on my detail photos. (small hatching at the edge). As a result, and also because I am not an expert, we can only attribute it to the famous miniaturist from Lorraine or to his workshop. But the comparison with the works is obvious.
Beautiful portrait, high quality, early 19th century.
Condition: Miniature incomplete, minimal scratches on the face, traces of cardboard glued on back. Period frame, Gilt brass surround with incomplete internal teeth, its blown glass, Inlaid wood frame to be closed.
Dimensions: Miniature: 6.5cm x 5.5cm, frame: 12cm x 10cm approximately.
