Object description :

"Illyrian Icon - The Annunciation - Second Half Of 18th Century"
This icon representing the annunciation, that is to say the moment when the angel Gabriel announces to Mary her new status as mother of the Son of God, and explains to her that she will bear a child in her womb while remaining a virgin. Its style is quite representative of a confluence between the Greek and Italian Schools that can be found in the cities of Illyria which Located on the coasts of the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea, Illyria roughly corresponds from what is currently southern Croatia to the northwestern border of Greece. This icon perfectly preserved in its original frame, has on the reverse an inscription difficult to decipher and traces of wax notebooks. The two completely stable reinforcements belong to the Greek method very different from the technique used in Russia.
