large oil on canvas dated 1853 with its period gilded frame (minimal wear and lack of gilding) the whole is in very good condition and unfortunately the most decorative unsigned canvas but nevertheless remains beautifully made dimensions with the frame: 147 cm high by 122 cm wide Dimensions of the canvas: 117 cm high by 91 cm wide Augustin Gorsse is a French politician born September 20, 1784 in Albi (Tarn) and died March 6, 1868 in Albi. Entering the Polytechnic school in 1802, he left it as an artillery officer. He was put inactive in 1815, and became director of the western forges, in Rennes, in 1817, then director of the Mutzig arms factory in 1824, then deputy inspector of the Strasbourg foundry in 1828. In 1831 , he was colonel and inspector of foundries in Paris and field marshal in 1841, commanding the artillery in Toulouse. He was transferred to the reserve cadre in 1846, and then entered politics. He was general councilor in the Tarn in 1847. He was deputy for Tarn from 1852 to 1868, official candidate sitting in the majority and mayor of Albi from 1853 to 1859. On his death, his son Raymond Gorsse succeeded him as deputy.
