Joseph Beaume was trained at the school of Baron Gros and started at the Salon of 1819. Beaume was not long in realizing the hopes that his debut had given. ; the following paintings, which he sent to the Salon of 1827, earned him a 1st class medal: Hunting stop, the King drinks (engraved), Rustic interior. From the way in which the artist treated familiar subjects, one believed to see in him a continuator of Greuzo, of that honest and sentimental painter who delighted Diderot.
