"18th Century, Italian Neoclassical Half-moon Lacquered And Gilt Wood Console Table"
18th Century, Italian Neoclassical Half-Moon Lacquered and Gilt Wood Console Table

This elegant console table, in finely carved, lacquered and gilded wood, fully represents the taste that prevailed in Italy at Naples at the end of the 18th century, in the neoclassical era.
The half-moon furniture has a white marble top. The band below presents refined carvings with golden decorations of neoclassical taste in floral and vegetal form inscribed in elegant frames and reserves. At the centre a large decoration with concentric circles encloses a large flower. Laterally there are some particular inlays with a mask with oriental features crowned by a leafy ramage and ribbons.
The four legs, which evoke tapered columns of classic taste, have a capital head and a conical body, with golden decorations with phytomorphic motifs, which tightens towards the feet to circular section.

In the important Italian palaces, from the 17th century and then throughout the 18th century, the consolles were among the most sought-after furnishings, emblem of the richness of the client, to show off in the spacious halls of representation. This type of highly decorative furniture is still today of great scenic effect and contributes to the elegance and refinement of every room that hosts it, whether modern or antique.
