"Virgin And Child In Majesty Known As `` Sedes Sapientiae '', Late 13th Century"
Exceptional Virgin and Child in Majesty from the time of the end of the 13th century.
The Virgin presents the Child, seated in a frontal position on a throne in the medieval tradition of the “Sedes Sapientiae” or “Throne of Wisdom”.
Virgin Queen, she wears a crown placed on a long veil that gently envelops the shoulders, waist and legs.
The child is sitting on his left knee. He is also dressed in a long tunic revealing his bare feet.
The polychromy underlines with delight the smiling expression of the faces of the Virgin and the Child as well as their glances borrowed from softness.
Our Virgin is to be compared to the wonderful collection that can be admired at the Marès Museum in Barcelona (see photos)

Dimensions: H. 61 cm x L. 30 cm x D. 20 cm

Beautiful original polychromy
Slight gaps in the right hand of the Virgin and the right arm of the Child.
Spain, Catalonia
