'kamr' Belt

It is rare to see a complete Kamr, the belt worn by warriors of northern India and Afghanistan. The name ‘Kamar’ derived from the word 'Kami', which is the term for a cartridge pouch. These belts, according to George Cameron Stone, carried flasks, bullet pouches and other loading implements with the combination of articles varying greatly. Our example has a leather belt (probably later replacement), with a metal sword hook, two large pouches made of cowhide apllied in thick layers, a cartridge case for 8 charges and two powder flasks. The metal pieces are comprised of a priming powder flask, a flint striker, a picker and a powder measure. Condition is good with one of the cartridge flasks missing and a some leather damage to the large flask. Probably mid 19th century.
